Cora's First Word

Now, before all you mothers get jealous at the fact that Cora is only one month old and allready talking, you should know this is only a dream. (although the nurses at the hospital ER said thry thought shetook The Lord's name in vain when they were taking her blood...she sometimes cries something that sounds like "oh guh") Anyhoo, Geron told me this morning that he'd dreamt Cora said her first word in the grocery store. I asked what word she'd said. "GET"was the answer. What did she want us to get? Her pacifier she'd dropped. I thought it was a pretty cute sounding dream. Of course we all know her first real words will be "Mommy, I love you", but we'll let Geron have his dreams for now.

Do you all remember your babies' first words and what the circumstances were under which they spoke them? Please share. I think my sister's baby's first word will be fart. (no, as far as I know I'm not an aunt yet, nor am I going to be one in the next nine months.)

Jamie's first word was "Sh-t". He was a late walker and a late talker (the late talking was due to chronic ear infections). So, anyway, I used to trip over his toys in the floor all the time (still do, come to think of it) and when I did apparently I would say "Sh-t" as I stepped on yet another hard toy. So one day, Jamie was attempting to take a few steps and tripped over one of his toys. As he fell down hard on his bottom, he distinctly said "sh-t". Of course, he doesn't say such things now (and I try not to either). And the official story he has been told is that his first word was "Gamma" for Grandma. He doesn't have to know it was really his second word, does he?

And no, my feelings won't be hurt if you delete or edit this comment. Just thought I would share. Big hugs and lots of love!

Bryan's first word was turtle. He had a mini beany baby turtle that he adored! We took that thing everywhere. He was a VERY early talker. At 7 months, we were driving and he dropped turtle, so he cried. When I said that I couldn't get it for him, he pointed and said "tuttle". For about a year after that, we had him say it a hundred times a day! It was too cute. He didn't say anything else for a long time... then it was "uh oh" and I think "dada" was next. Don't remember when "mommy" came out.

I didn't think "Oh, gosh" was all that bad. Actually, I thought it was adorable

Alex's first word was 'dada'. He about drove me nuts with dada because every afternoon about 4 he would start saying it over and over until Dada got home and picked him up. After that, it was 'bite-bite' His favorite things were his daddy and eating. That hasn't changed, btw :)

I'm a bad, bad mommy. I can't remember CJ's first word. I remember we debated about "Da" and if he meant Tom by it. Later, it was followed by Mom, kittycat, bath, and more.

I can tell you what words he's just learned! Apple, purple, yellow, and circle!

Does he actually say "Yellow?" Jamie and several of his friends that were all in daycare together all said "Lellow". They didn't all grow out of it until they were in first grade. But it was so darn cute!

It's more like, Yehwoe, but close enough to get the point. He's probably got about 40 words total he can say, but only really uses 3-5 at a time.
