Way before Geron and I found out we were going to be parents, we joked with Geron's mom about what her future grandchildren might call her. We love to tease her about a specific name all the time because it really pushes her buttons. Geron sweetly suggested that when we have kids they'll call me "mama" and they'll call her "Big Mama". Let's just say she didn't go for
that at all! Well, this week we've been on tour doing music for our district Sunday school rally.We told our d.s.'s wife, a good friend of Geron's mom, on Sunday night about the"BigMama" story and she got a kick out of it. On Monday night, Patsy(my mother-in-law) came to the service and Karla (the d.s. wife) talked to her afterwards. She said "Patsy, Geron and Lydia told me what you want to call yourself when the baby comes and I think its sweet. I think Big Mama is a cute name." Patsy about died!!! Of course, she immediately looked around to see where Geron was to get after him!
My mom has chosen to be "Granny" which is one of my favorite names since I had such a wonderful Granny. Patsy is thinking about "YaYa" for herself--I won't go there today except to say that Geron and Preston have had many conversations trying to talk her out of it. I personally think she'd make a great "Nana". We'll see. In the meantime, a good friend at church has nicknamed me "Little Mama". (Kind of makes me feel good to be called little since I don't feel so little these days.)

One of my mom's friends is called "gicky" by her grandkids. her name is Vicky, and when her first grandchild was little, she heard someone call her Vicky and mis-interpreted it as "Gicky". It stuck, and now all of the grandkids call her that.
I am a fan of Grammy.. that's what Jeff's mom is to Bryan. I think it is adorable.

Let's see...Jamethan called my mom Ga'mama (emphasis on Ga - mama pronounced like an English person would say it); I called my mother's mom Granny; Granny's mom was called Mamaw; Granny's mother-in-law was called Mammie (as in "Mammie, Mammie, speak to me, Mammie"). I have heard friends call their grandmothers Nana, Nonnie, Nanny, Gram, Grammy, Mamma II (or Two-two for short), and the ever-traditional Grandma. Hope this helped!

molly calls both of our moms "granny." and both of our dads are "papaw." i had a nana and have a mamaw.
My dad's grandkids called him "Pa". I called my grandparents, "grandma" and "grandpa"... none too original, but they were mine, by golly. :)
Guess you remember the story about Ann talking about Grandpa and Grandpa--that we should give Grandpa (male) a teddy bear, so that he would have something to sleep with when Grandpa (female) wasn't ready to go to bed.
My grandmothers were Granny (Mom's mother) and Grandmother or Nanny (Dad's mom). Love you.
Oh, one more Grandma name I came across... "Mamoo". I bet she really wouldn't like that one!

One of my bosses is "GP" and his wife is "Grand" to their 3-year-old grandson.
I thought that was cute. Especially to hear him say "GP"!
Here's another one--my good friend Kela is Icie to her grandchildren. I asked her why, and she said it was because her grandma was Icie. (Of course that was her grandma's name)
